The Havanese has a non-shedding coat, free from "doggy" odor. Their coat should
be brushed at least once every few days. The breed standard calls for a soft
profuse, untrimmed coat with a plumed tail with long, silky hair curled over his
back. Technically speaking the Havanese is "double-coated" with very soft hair,
in the undercoat as well as the outer coat. The hair ranges from slighly wavy to
curly. Although the breed standard requires the Havanese to be shown untrimmed,
except around the feet, family pet owners generally keep them trimmed and
groomed to avoid snarling and matting of hair.
