DEAFNESS     Sometimes deafness can occur in one or both ears. Identification of deafness can be detected as early as five weeks. A test called the BAER (brain audio evoked response) is performed and the results can be registered with the OFA. Only one test need be done to determine hearing and a repeat is not necessary. These conditions can all be alarming to read. For the most part, Havanese have a very healthy life with very little problems as evidenced by the normal range life span…12-15 years. But it is best to be informed and ask questions of your breeder and see documentation of the parent’s health reports. And don’t be hesitant to ask your veterinarian any questions or concerns you have before buying the Havanese.
